ACSU questions Sreesanth

New Delhi: Tainted cricketer S Sreesanth on Monday became the first of the four cricketers to depose before BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit chief Ravi Sawani at a city hotel here. The Kerala paceman, who was in judicial custody for close to a month, on allegations of spot-fixing during an IPl match between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab, today dropped in at a five-star facility to meet Sawani. According to reliable sources, Sreesanth was grilled by the ACSU chief for close to three hours. “He (Sreesanth) was asked to give his side of the story and a lot of questions were asked by Sawani. It has been learnt that Sreesanth told Sawani the same thing that he had told the Special Cell of Delhi Police during his interrogation in police custody,” a BCCI source in the know of things informed.

Force India keen to improve

Silverstone: As F1 caravan moves to England, Sahara Force India are keen to erase their poor past record when their drivers line up on the grid for the ‘home’ British Grand Prix here on Sunday. Force India, whose headquarters are just across the race venue, have earned only four points in the last three seasons here. In 2012 and 2011, the team returned empty handed and it was in 2010 that Adrian Sutil had finished eighth to earn four points. “In the past we’ve never had great success at Silverstone, so we are keen to put that right this year. It’s a home race for Paul and I’m sure the whole team can count on lots of support from the British fans. Performance-wise, I expect us to be competitive,” said Team Principal Vijay Mallya.

Montolivo is Milan captain

MIlAN: AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani has announced that Italy midfielder Riccardo Montolivo will become the squad’s new captain after just one season with the club. The move comes after Milan decided earlier this month in a surprise move not to renew the contract of previous captain Massimo Ambrosini, who took over the armband when Paolo Maldini retired in 2009. The 28-year-old Montolivo joined Milan from Fiorentina a year ago and was a fixture in the Rossoneri lineup this past season.
