Vengsarkar for ‘additional IPl final’ in Mumbai to raise funds

Mumbai: Former captain Dilip Vengsarkar has written to the BCCI, requesting them to slot an “additional final” of the Indian Premier league (IPl) in the city to help raise funds for the drought-hit people of Maharashtra. “The BCCI, in the past, has always come forward and helped in such matters. I earnestly request you to arrange for an additional final of the T20 league on May 28 to be played either at the Wankhede or DY Patil Stadium after the final at Kolkata on 26th gets over to raise funds,” Vengsarkar wrote in the letter addressed to board president N Srinivasan. “It will go a long way if substantial amount is raised from the match for this worthy cause,” wrote Vengsarkar to Srinivasan. “I am writing this letter in my personal capacity as a former captain of Mumbai & India. There is a severe drought in most parts of Maharashtra & as a result a lot of people are suffering who need urgent financial help,” he added.

Buzz over Tendulkar’s first match in Himachal

Dharamsala: God of cricket Sachin Tendulkar’s imminent knock in the land of gods has sent the excitement quotient soaring across the boundary. His fans are desperately awaiting his first ever match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association’s (HPCA) sole venue, located at an altitude of 4,000 feet above sea level here, May 18 when Mumbai Indians take on Kings XI Punjab. “Most of the tickets for the second IPl match here have been sold out well in advance. Only a handful of tickets, that too in the expensive blocks, are available,” HPCA press secretary Mohit Sood said. He said it’s only the craze of the fans to witness Tendulkar’s batting in the newly-constructed international ground that has created the buzz. “The demand for tickets for the second match is more compared to the first one (Delhi Daredevils versus Kings XI Punjab May 16),” he added. Over 21,000 people are expected to witness the second and the last match of the IPl-6 season here. “Of course, it’s a proud moment for the organisers too to see Tendulkar in action here for the first time,” HPCA president Anurag Thakur, a member of the lok Sabha, said.

Take a lesson from Tendulkar: Miandad to Pak players

Karachi: Emphasising the importance of hard work, former captain Javed Miandad told the Pakistani players to look up to Sachin Tendulkar, who he says is an embodiment of commitment to the game of cricket. Miandad while talking to Pakistan players, preparing for the Champions Trophy in Abbotabad, said there was no replacement for hard work. “It has been a good experience working with these players and I have told them that no matter how much coaching or advice you are given nothing can replace the individual hard work you put into your game everyday. I gave them the example of Sachin Tendulkar who is still playing Test cricket only because of his commitment and the individual hard work he puts into his game,” Miandad said. “I think he is an ideal role model for the present generation,” Miandad added.      Agencies
