Rannvijay Singh who plays Major Rajveer Shergil in Pukaar — Call For The Hero, tells Sangeeta Yadav about the challenges that he faced in this action-thriller tele-series
On his debut
Pukaar... marks my debut on TV as an actor. The show is very close to my heart as I have an Army background. I wanted to join the Army but fate obviously had others things in store for me. Something or the other kept happening and I just couldn’t train to get into the service. Then acting happened. It’s the toughest thing I have done so far in my life. Those who are following the show will know that it has high scale action which has not been seen in TV or for that matter in films as well. I wanted the action to look like it was done by me, so no body double has been roped in to do the stunts.
Doing action sequences
When I was told that the show is action-packed, I didn’t hesitate in saying that I will do all the action sequences myself. After doing Roadies, wherein one is required to perform dangerous tasks, I had got over the fear of performing stunts at a height or underwater or fighting goons. During Pukaar... I got injured several times but it’s a part and parcel of doing an action-thriller.
Playing an army officer
Since I have an Army background, it helped me get into the character and the situations easily. However, there is down side as well, I am now judged by not just the audience but also my family. DoingPukaar... is our way to pay our respect to all those people who are serving the nation — the armed forces.
