After a week-long lean period of films — last week was only Vishwaroopam 2 and The Meg — this week has two movies that make worth a watch depending where one’s taste lie even though the underlying theme for Gold and Satyamev Jayate maybe somewhat similar — Nation comes first.

Satyamev Jayate is a hard-hitting take on the rampant corruption in the police and how a vigilante takes the task of cleaning up the system — or should we say one city — Mumbai.

Directed by Milap Zaveri, the film has nothing new to offer in terms of story. Many a films have been made on how corrupt our police is and how one man takes it upon himself to clean it up or one should say get rid of the few who give the department a bad name. Sunny Deol’s character in Ghayal and Akshay Kumar in Gabbar Is Back comes to mind.

But despite the story told many times, there is something about such subjects that makes one go for them. The idea of a man coming to the rescue of the weak and helping the poor makes you believe that there is still kindness left in this world. Another matter that the manner in which he punishes the corrupt leaves a lot to be desired— it is very violent.

But the makers have ensured that the audience remains in tenterhooks for at least some part of the film with a twist thrown in for good measure. But they could have done away with the rather cliched ending.
