Rated: 5/10

Revisiting a halka-phulka movie in a lose sequence can be either a courageous idea or a ridiculous one. Happy Phhir Bhag Jayegi is both courageous and ridiculous but in a happy way. The original Happy is there too but only on the sidelines a space Diana Penty seems to be enjoying even as Sonakshi Sinha takes centrestage.

From Amritsar, Patiala and lahore to China, the jump in localing is quite ambitious as is the premise, the premise being a conspiracy involving goons in Beijing to get their cut in a deal between China and Pakistan, a cut of Rs 480 crore, by abducting Happy and pressuring her politician friend in Pakistan to give the cut! Only, there is a mix-up, the wrong Happy is picked up and the situation keeps going out of hand in a mixture of hilarity, repetition, relationships and, of course, the bonhomie that the characters create on their perilous road trip through two-three Chinatowns.

You could call the humour juvenile but sometimes that works too in making some amount of money. Quite obviously, everyone is having fun here as the director decides to go all out with one liner politically incorrect laughs and leading the pack is not so much Sonakshi Sinha as Happy 2 but Jimmy Sheirgill and his Pakistani counterpart played to the hilt by Piyush Mishra.

Overall, the film is slim, sometimes prolonged in making a point with humour but some sections of society will enjoy this one too despite the gaps and the gaffes.
