If anyone thought that the festival surrounding Day of the Dead was a dead bore, they couldn’t have been more wrong when they see this latest animation. Who else can make skeletons look cute and friendlyIJ Well, of course it is none other than from Pixar/Disney. Though the whole concept may sound a bit strange and bizarre, Pixar and Disney manage to pull it off beautifully.
This can’t be truer when the film’s hero, a 12-year-old Miguel Rivera (voice by Anthony Gonzalez), lands up in the ‘land of the Dead’. This the place where Coco picks up pace and takes you into a world that is filled with neon colours, non-stop music and there is loads of fun since you are just a bag of bones.
Then there are the alebrijes — the spirit guides — who leap high into the air. One would not have seen so many colours — a palette of fluorescent greens, blues, yellows, and oranges. It is in the ‘land of the Dead’ that the canvas is filled with visuals that take one’s breath away.
Coco reiterates that Hollywood makes the best animation with a great message — that family comes first. The good part is that these movies are no longer just for children. They are so brilliantly done and the way stories are narrated, even adults throng the theatres.
Here’s a suggestion. Around up the entire family and go see this one together!
