First desi noir series Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam

Women have often been celebrated for being an epitome of patience, sacrifice, endurance and more. ZEE5 and Zindagi are set to break this stereotype and unearth their unapologetic side in the upcoming original Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam. A desi noir anthology, Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam is helmed by critically acclaimed British Indian director Meenu Gaur. The series features an eclectic cast with leading actors from the subcontinent including Ahsan Khan, Osman Khalid Butt, Sheheryar Munawar, Saleem Mairaj, Samiya Mumtaz, Sanam Saeed, Sarwat Gilani, Mehar Bano, Faiza Gillani, Beo Raana Zafar and Eman Suleman.

Written by Farjad Nabi and Meenu Gaur, ‘Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam’ is set in the timeless lanes of ‘Androon Sheher’ - a mythical neighborhood and showcases stories of love, lust, power, and redemption woven in a web of betrayal, angst, and revenge. Each story from the anthology depicts the fearlessness of women and their determination to avenge deceit. At the core of the stories is mystery, suspense, intrigue with twist endings. Manish Kalra, Chief Business Officer, ZEE5 India said, “At ZEE5, we are passionate about bringing you stories that reflect a myriad of emotions from across genres and storylines. Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam is a unique and invigorating show which portrays a never seen before side of female protagonists who challenge stereotypes. We are excited to bring forth this differentiating show on ZEE5 and add to the variety of content available on the platform”.

Ms Shailja Kejriwal, Chief Content Officer - Special Projects, Zee Entertainment Enterprises said, “Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam challenges the stereotypical portrayal of women who are often perceived as victims. Each story in the anthology showcases courageous, bold women who decide to take charge of things when their limits are pushed. These women are fatal to patriarchy and go several extra miles to seek what they want at any cost." Creator and Director Meenu Gaur said, "This idea for the show was like an outpouring for me and it's no surprise that the stories here are about all that which surges within us as women- love, passion, ambition, conviction, rage, revenge, and revolution. With the dominance of a male-centric gaze especially in the noir genre, I was keen to explore a new interpretation, one which is told from the perspective of the much-maligned femme fatale (Qatil Haseena) characters. It is an attempt to correct the sexism of film noir and try our hands at feminist noir”.

Cowriter Farjad Nabi said, "Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam waves goodbye to the victim woman as seven fatales get their way through methods that are unexpected, sometimes horrifying, but always liberating. I am glad this show will be premiering on the Zee5 platform that focuses on bringing diverse and significant stories for the global audience."

‘Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam’ is a compilation of six stories of seven women who wrest back control and redefine the word femme fatale.

special sociAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN

Zee TV recently added a riveting drama to its late primetime titled, Aggar Tum Na Hote - the story of a mentally unstable, rich, young man whose only ray of hope is his nurse who refuses to give up on him even after the senior-most doctors have thrown up their hands. While Niyati Mishra is played by television actor Simaran Kaur, the popular heartthrob Himanshu Soni is seen essaying the character of Abhimanyu Pandey.

While Abhimanyu caught the audience’s attention with his mercurial personality and erratic behaviour, Niyati came through as a warm, rock-solid, dependable character and instantly reminded viewers of a similar person in their own life. With the audience being reminded of their own special Niyatis in life, Zee TV introduced a special social media campaign - the #AggarTumNaHote movement to give 1000 of viewers a platform to acknowledge the efforts, contributions of that one special, solid person who has been a Niyati in their life, standing by their side and egging them on through their toughest times.

While thousands of viewers joined the movement, even actors of the television industry like Anita Hassanandani, Karan Wahi, Deepika Singh, Ravi Dubey and Krystle D’Souza hopped on to the bandwagon and took to social media to give a special shoutout to their 'Niyati' who has been the pillar of strength during their moments of dilemma or their only source of hope after a debacle or a daunting challenge.

Calling out not one but the two Niyatis of her life, Anita Hassanandani said, “It doesn’t often happen when you find someone who means everything to you. You feel more appreciated and spirited with them around you. Today, I would like to thank my two guardian angels for always watching over me, Rohit Reddy & Ekta Kapoor. I would like to say something to them, Agar tum na hote, to aaj main iss mukaam par bilkul nahi hoti.”

Adding how Ekta helped her face the challenges, Anita Hassanandani said, “Ekta is a prototype of every strong female character she ever created. She is a true friend and an incredibly strong-willed woman. All these years of friendship have culminated into an indispensable relationship, the one where we could do anything for each other with no questions asked. I remember those days when I was young, hungry for work but clueless about everything. I was bitterly affected by my early failures but then you came into my life.
