Saare Jahan Se... is a near perfect satire on how inflation is hitting the lower middle class and how people are resorting to various means to sustain themselves. With prices of food going through the roof each passing day, this particular family is struggling to make ends meet.

Then one day Puttanpal (Sanjay Mishra) gets a brilliant idea which he believes will help him to sail through the tiring times for the next three years. He decides to take a Government loan (which is readily available for student who can’t pass their senior secondary examination) and use it to buy groceries for the next few years. “We will eat well at the very least” is his understanding of the  situation. All is well till the loan inspector, played by Zakir Hussain, comes by.

How the entire village manages to fool the inspector intelligently and how the situation turns comical is what fleshes out this film. It’s a story told from the heart. With some good performances, Sanjay Mishra holding forth most times, SJSM might not be a bad spend.
