Vikrant Massey who believes in the story and character and not the medium, speaks with Sangeeta Yadav about his journey in the industry so far
Your show Yeh Hai Aashiqui on Bindaas is doing quite well…
Centered around the concept ‘love against all odds’, the show underlines the reality that today’s youth does not look at age, the possible obstacles or even gender before falling in love. Even today, these pure love stories don’t find their space in this society and aren’t accepted. We’re hoping to get the right message across to the society at large and not just the youth.
How was your experience as a hostIJ
While acting you’re playing a character whose trait and personality are already defined. Hosting is a completely different ballgame as you need to be yourself and that is a challenge.
You became quite famous in Balika Vadhu as Sugna’s husband…
Working for Balika Vadhu was the best phase of my life. I had a great learning experience working with Surekha Sikhri in the show. When I started working at the age of 17, I had to struggle for nine years to make a foothold in the industry. My hardwork is paying off now.
You recently made your Bollywood debut with lootera, can you recall any memorable incident from the making of the filmIJ
It was almost like an adventure; there was a time when shooting in Dalhousie we were stuck at the hotel for four days as there was heavy snowfall. But the localities there took good care of us. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Ranveer and Sonakhi. They are very down to earth and good actors. Motwane is one the finest director’s in this industry and it was a dream come true for me to work with him.
How important it is for you to act as a lead actorIJ
For me, the story and the role offered to me should be exciting. Whether it is a cameo or the lead role doesn’t really matter. I don’t believe in the concept of leading roles. I believe in the character. If you see in a broader perspective, aaj-kal movies mein koi lead ya parallel lead jaisa concept nahin hai.
Your take on reality shows...
Since I was an assistant trainer with Shiamak Davar, I have been approached several times by dance reality shows. But I couldn’t take it up as I was busy with my TV assignments. For me, managing time is the most challenging part of this profession.
