Tanvi Azmi, who is back on TV with Vani Rani, tells PARTH TAYAl that the reason she took up this role was because the script offered her something that she had not attempted before
What is Vani-Rani aboutIJ
It is about twins Vani and Rani, who are breaking stereotypes and myths, have starkly conflicting personalities except their faces. Vani is a strict disciplinarian; she is a successful lawyer. Rani, on the other hand, is a housewife and is driven by heart, with an extremely loving husband.
How has the experience of playing a double roleIJ
I am playing a double role for the first time in my life and it’s not easy at all because if we have to show both sisters in the same space we have to leave the scene half way and then comeback and recreate the same scene from the same page. But the viewers will never be able to see that there is anything that is out of order.
What made you say yes to itIJ
Over the years I have rejected many TV scripts that have come my way as they were very monotonous. But when I read this script I found it very exciting and challenging, something that I had never done before — playing a twin and being part of a daily soap and its pressures.
How is it back to be on TVIJ
This role made me come to TV again, I am kind of artist who works for self-satisfaction. While reading the script I thought I would be learning something new from it. But now that I am back on the small screen, I am loving it.
What difference did you find between working on films and on TVIJ
Television requires a lot more physical work. We have long working hours. In films we get sufficient time to prepare ourselves for the role. Having said that, it doesn’t mean that we compromise on hard work. I give my 100 per cent to both mediums.
How has television changed over the yearsIJ
The concepts have changed; now the shows have a more realistic approach to them. Obviously, the technology is more advanced now. Therefore, it is possible to have more appealing visuals. Even the content and script has improved.
When you are not doing project what keeps you busyIJ
It is my family that keeps me busy. I have growing children and a loving husband. It feels really nice to spend time with them. After all, the hard work that I do is for them only.
Having such a beautiful face how did you manage to pull off a villainous character in Bajiro MastaniIJ
The role that I was playing, that of Bajirao’s mother — Radhabai, was really difficult. Besides going bald for the character, for a year, I was playing a character related to history. When you do that, there is an additional responsibility of justifying it. I am happy with what I delivered.
Why go bald and not use prostheticsIJ
I am very professional when it comes to my work. When I came to know I have to go bald, I thought to myself — hair are just a part of my body which would grow again. The fact, that I have got so much appreciation for my role in the movie, it has been worth going bald.
Any other project that you are looking at nowIJ
No, I am taking one step at a time. I am associated with no other project except Vani Rani and I would like to keep it that way, otherwise I won’t be able to justify it. The role is very challenging and while doing a daily soap one has no has time to work elsewhere.
