the angry birds movie

Rated: 6.5/10

When you go to watch The Angry Birds Movie, you would expect the obvious  a bunch of birds that are angry, much like the video game. The film successfully delivers this, and more. Not only do we see the angry birds, we also get to know why they’re angry.

The film also explains the rivalry between the birds and green pigs and how the birds need the slingshot because none of them can fly. None except one, the mythical Mighty Eagle (voiced perfectly by Peter Dinklage), who, as it turns out, is not in fact mythical.

The film starts with Red (Jason Sudeikis) being given the penalty of joining anger management sessions on the Bird Island where no single bird is ever sad or bad-tempered, and all of them believe that there is no other place in this world. Even as Red and his new friends, Chuck and Bomb, find it hard to manage their anger, enter the detestable green pigs from Piggy land, complete with a sinister plan.

When the sinister plan actually becomes successful, Red assumes the role of the leader and send the birds floating, flying and doing things they had never done before. He even gets the Mighty Eagle out of retirement.

Unlike most children’s films, this one does not end with Red as a reformed not-at-all-angry young bird. However, by the end of it, Red does learn how to manage his anger.

The film has released during the summer vacations, the perfect time for children to enjoy it. However, adults would enjoy it just as much, if not more. With a good balance between comedy and drama, the viewer would find it hard to be distracted from Red’s tale of woe and subsequent heroism. The supporting characters do well to hold their own in this lighthearted film.
