Sara Khan, known for her roles in Bidaai and Ram Milai Jodi, plays Pavitra in Bhagya lakshmi. She talks to Varnika Gupta about how this role is different and her experience working with Aruna Irani
You’ve played lead roles in Bidaai and Ram Milai Jodi. Why are you playing a parallel role nowIJ
This is not second lead or parallel lead. It is a very impactful role and I completely trust my producer and channel to ensure that the character I play will do complete justice. They got me in so it has to be big as they know I don’t do second lead. Also, I don’t believe that any role is a lead or a parallel lead. I believe in my ability to bring a character to life who will be loved.
Why are you choosing negative rolesIJ
There is lot more to do when one does a negative role. Also, it is not me who is choosing the role, it is my producers, directors and channel who trust me that I can take such an impactful character and do justice to it. I believe in their ability to bring out the best in me and that whatever they are doing will be appreciated.
How are you going to manage two shows — Sasural Simar Ka and Bhagya lakshmiIJ
At the moment I have made an exit in Sasural Simar Ka and made an entry in Bhagya lakshmi. Both shows have been produced by the same production house so when I was working in both, it was easy to manage.
How is Pavitra different from other roles you have done so farIJ
If you are following the show, you will see how Pavitra is different. I play a cabaret dancer who wants to make it big in the Bhojpuri film industry. But my main in life is to take revenge from Aruna Irani, my mother, who has wronged me. Pavitra believes that her mother denied her the things that she deserved in life and has therefore had to fight for a place in life.
How is it working with Aruna IraniIJ
It is great to work with such a senior actress who has been in the industry for so many years. It’s truly amazing; one gets to learn so many things from her.
What are the twists and turns we will seeIJ
There are many and you will have to watch the show to know more. My entry in the serial is in itself a big twist which has created an impact. I am sure the viewers will love all the plotting that will be seen in the coming episodes.
You started of on negative role in Sasural Simar Ka. We see you do a U-turn. WhyIJ
The script demanded it. I did what was asked of me by the director and the producers of the show. There are some things that need to be done to keep the TRPs up. My transition from a negative to a positive character is all part of what the viewers want.
Do you relate the characters in Sasural Simar Ka and Bhagya lakshmiIJ
No, these characters are very different from who I am in real life. But I don’t know about the future projects. May be I will get to play a character that is similar to whom I am.
Any particular role you want to doIJ
For now, I don’t have any in my bucket list. I live the character I play for a said project. The end result, I feel is amazing. But I am sure there will be a time when I would want to play a certain character. For now, I am happy the way my career is shaping up
