Karan Kundra, last seen in MTV love School, talks to Gurbani Singh about his new show Dil Hi Toh Hai

  • Tell us about your roleIJ

Ritwik is a businessman’s son. He is very ruthless when it comes to his work. He belongs to a typical North Indian Punjabi family. But he doesn’t trust women because of what happened in his past. He is a very passionate and an intense person. Having said this about my character, he doesn’t take things to heart.

  • You belong to a Punjabi family in real life with a business background, how did you end up becoming an actorIJ

Destiny, Ekta Kapoor found me on Facebook and called me to Mumbai around eight years back. I have been here since then.

  • What’s different about this character that your are playingIJ

There’s nothing different about it; it’s the realism of the show. Every love story has a boy and a girl, a set of parents, hurdles and people who will be against it. There’s nothing new about that. But, the way we are taking this story, it is very real. Ritwik isn’t a typical TV lead. He’s young, he’ s successful, he’s rich and enjoys life. He gets a lot of attention from women and enjoys it. He is someone  with whom the audience will relate to. my co-actor is not your typical cry baby; she’s strong and independent.

  • Is it safe to say that you enjoy playing such rolesIJ

I enjoy playing all sorts of characters. I’m an actor. And as an actor, you’re a beggar and not a chooser (no offence to anyone). Whatever is given to me has to be done. My aim is not to enjoy characters, it’s to make sure whoever is watching is convinced by my role. But yes, of course, I enjoy love stories. Who doesn’tIJ

  • You’re paired against a debutante. Have you learnt/taught anything in the processIJ

I haven’t shot a lot with her as of now. But she’s a very vibrant young girl. If that transcends into her character, it’ll work very well.

  • What’s your dream roleIJ

There are no dream roles, there are only dream scripts and dream directors who I want to work with. Whoever wants to work with me is my dream director. I’m not someone who copies things that have already been done before. I want to create my own stuff.

  • Working with Ekta Kapoor.

She’s the one who launched me. I have grown as a person and an actor, working in her shows and films. This is my seventh daily soap with her in eight years.
