Investigative thriller Dev 2 is back on TV to keep you on the edge with nail biting moments. Monika Thakur talks to the starcast about how the series is bigger and better this time round
From Byomkesh Bakshi to CID, showmakers have been cashing in on the suspense genre giving viewers nail-biting moments and keeping them on edge. loved and watched by almost everyone, these shows keep the viewers hooked to their screens and minds engaged till the very end.
Adding to the list of investigative thrillers, popular series Dev Season 2 is back and will untold the stories of detective Dev Anand Burman, played by Ashish Chaudhary, who carries a baggage from the past. However, he continues to catch con artists, sociopaths, psychopaths & revenge junkies.
Viewers who had been following the first season will be happy to know that Puja Banerjee and Amit Dolawat are back in pivotal roles. The only person missing this time is Sumona Chakravarti. The new addition is Jigyasa Singh.
Joining detective Dev is Inspector Amod Narvekar, essayed by Amit Dolawat; it will be an interesting jodi to watch out for. “Inspector Amod and Dev can’t stand each other for more than five minutes yet the cases they get are always interconnected and they end up working together,” Dolawat says.
While the first season bagged a lot of appreciation from critics, Season 2 that airs Monday to Thursday at 10:30 pm on Colors, has a lot more to offer — new characters and interesting mysteries to solve.
“The characters have gone through a makeover. They leave an impact. When I shot the first four episodes of Season 2, the makers complimented me saying: ‘You are an angry young cop yet sensitive by heart’. Bringing such a simple looking, complex character to life was not easy. Getting a compliment for my acting motivated me to give my best with every episode,” Dolawat tells you.
For Ashish Chaudhary, it was quite a shock when he got to know that the show will be aired daily instead of weekends. “Normally, an episode of a family drama takes about one to two days to finish but shooting time per episode in series like Dev takes three to four days of hard work. Internationally, the entire series is shot first, followed by the release just like movies but in our industry, we start by shooting and the episodes keep getting released alongside. It was a bit uncomfortable initially to follow the daily format but eventually, I got used to it,” Chaudhary says, adding that the success of the show lies in the writing style.
For 24-year-old Jigyasa Singh, who shot to fame as Thapki on Color’s Thapki Pyar Ki, playing Dhwani in Dev 2 was a great learning experience.
“She is bubbly and a chirpy girl who brings life to the show. Playing a stammering girl in Thapki... and then Dhwani in Dev 2 who doesn’t even take a break to breathe while talking was a drastic transformation for me. I had to experiment with new acting techniques which were a great learning experience. It has influenced my personality in a big way. I’ve started talking like her even off the sets. I’m way more expressive and energetic just like Dhwani,” Singh says.
Having acted in both daily soap and series, Singh tells you that there is a huge difference between the two.
“Daily soaps are shot in close-ups in order to capture the expressions of the characters. Actors get used to focussing more on their facial expressions and the rest of the body becomes secondary. Whereas, in thrillers like Dev 2, the actors are expected to use their entire body to showcase their character in the best possible manner,” Singh explains.
