MAIN AUR MR RIIGHT

Staring: Barun Sobti, Shenaz Treasurywala, Kavi Shastri, Varun Khandelwal

Rated: 4/10

If this is what Mr Barun Sobti was hoping for when he decided to take a break for television and do films, then one would have preferred if he had stuck to the small screen. Sobti really got this one very ‘wrong’. At least as Arnav Singh Raizada in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam DoonIJ he had managed to have some fan following and was in fact quite popular with the young ladies who would tune in to the show just for him.

But one supposes everyone has to learn from their mistakes and this debut venture — Main Aur Mr Riight — will make Sobti do a rethink. But if he insists that Bollywood is his calling then he needs to really give a lot of thought to the kind of roles he accepts.

As Sukhi, born in ludhiana and brought up in Delhi, Sobti does manage to get into the role of a young struggling actor wanting to make it big in Bollywood, but that is all he manages to get right. He has not even tried to get rid of his Arnav expressions or the tight rein he keeps while delivering dialogues.

As for the rest of the starcast, Shenaz Treasurywala character is more in tune with reality as are the other supporting cast members. Director Adeeb Rais may have tried his best to make a movie that is in tune with the present times, but ill-timed songs — our hero and heroine leave their car in the middle of the road just to sing a song is not our idea of a situational song — and not so great storyline makes this one a dud. Mr Sobti, better luck with your next venture because you got this one wrong.
