SHAlINI SAKSENA speaks to the leads of the new show on Colors — Internet Wala love — on whether it is possible to find real life romance on social media platforms and the safeguards to follow
Given that there are so many social media platforms and apps that the young are using to meet or date, it was only time that our show makers would cash-in on the trend and come up with a show — Internet Wala love.
The show set in Delhi has Jai (Shivin Narang) who works as an RJ at a popular station and belongs to the group of people whose lives need to be chartered over the Internet. According to him, anything and everything can happen on social media — be it online shopping, banking or love.
“In real life I do use the Internet but not social media. My character on the other hand is totally hooked to it. He doesn’t believe in wasting his time; just say ‘yes’ or ‘no’, date and move on,” Narang says.
He does tells you that in real life there are many copycats when it comes to postings. “Just because some snap a picture of something and post it on Snapchat doesn’t mean everyone should do it. But this doesn’t mean that social media is sans benefits. There are job postings, house hunting becomes easy and connecting with friends is easier. It is up to the person how he uses the platform; there is no right or wrong,” Narang says.
Talking about her role, Tunisha Sharma tells you that she plays Aadhya is a self-disciplined girl who doesn’t believe in online dating or the perks of social media. She works with a wedding planning agency headed by Mahira (Minissha lamba).
“My role is simple and sobre. She stays away from social media platforms. In fact, she has no presence on it. I found a connect with the character. In real life I too try to stay away from these platforms but maintain a balance. I prefer to talk with the person on a one-on-one basis rather than online given that there is so much cyber crime. One doesn’t know the person on the other line; People make fake IDs so one should be very careful,” Sharma opines who was excited when she was offered this show.
“The concept is fresh; the character that I play is something that I have not done thus far given that I have done so many historicals till now,” Sharma says.
Commenting about the show Manisha Sharma, programming Head Colors tells you that this show will add to their diverse programming line-up. “We are excited to present this new show which is vibrant and has newage relevance. The story follows the journey of Jai, a young boy and Aadhya who finds the Internet very invasive. The narrative, with its twists and turns will weave an intriguing story around social media that has taken over our worlds.”
Interestingly, both Narang and Sharma tell you that there is always need to have safeguards in real life while using social media platforms.
“I don’t believe that it is possible to find love on the Internet. I also don’t believe in dating apps. One can’t judge a person unless you meet him and get to know him,” Sharma tells you. And how Jai and Aadhya meet given that her character is not on any social media platform is interesting to watch out for.
The good part is that this serial is entertaining than preaching how to use social media platforms safely. “The show is just telling a story of two people with different personalities. It is up to the viewers what they want to take away,” Narang says.
He also opines that the word love is bounded. It is not just to boy-girl relationship. We love our parents, our friend and even our pet. love is a limitless emotion and I subscribe to it,” Narang says and adds that people must watch this show is because it is entertaining, has a fresh love story and caters to all age group.
Agrees producer Sunjoy Waddhwa from Sphere Origins tells you that it was a great opportunity to explore subjects which are not only entertaining but also relevant.
“With Internet Wala love, the idea is to present a youthful story that families can connect with. The narrative, the cast and the creative teams have all knit together a show that we believe will be a joy to watch,” Waddhwa says.
The show goes on air tomorrow — August 27, 2018 — at 7 pm
