Mentoring talent

Musical reality show SaReGaMaPa is all set to make a comeback on Zee TV after a gap of about four years. The mentors for this season are singer Mika Singh and music composers Pritam and duo Sajid-Wajid. “This year, there is a lot in store for the viewers and a lot of challenges for the contestants. With the show’s new format, things are only going to get harder for the singers,” Wajid says. This edition will see a three-dimensional judging. Apart from the mentors and audience votes, there is also a jury of 30 members who will whet the contestants.

Explaining this further, Pritam says: “The jury have been nominated by the mentors and they include only those people who have dedicated their entire lives to music such as sound engineers, lyricists, arrangers and so on. More than 50 per cent of the jury must give their go-ahead so that a contestant can go forward.” The mentors say that the new lot of contestants are nothing like they’ve ever seen before on the show. They are not just talented singers but they are armed with their unique style and sometimes, also their own accompaniments. “These young kids today are so smart. Earlier, they didn’t even know how to answer on TV,” says mentor Sajid.

“Since this season is all about new things, we are also going to be creating singles with the top 12 singers. After all, we need to check if they can perform in the studio as well as they perform on stage,” says Pritam.

The show goes on air from March 26, every Saturday-Sunday at 9.30 pm.
