On another platform, in another format, with the same team but a different set, Kapil Sharma will be making a comeback this April & he says he has no time for controversies. PRAKRITI ROY reports from Mumbai

Fans waiting to see Kapil Sharma and his crazy team of comedians back on screen will be rewarded with The Kapil Sharma Show all set to start on April 23 on the Sony channel.

The new show will bring in new gags and characters but with old favourites like Kiku Sharda (Palak), Sunil Grover (Gutthi), Ali Asgar (Dadi), Sumona Chakraborty (Manju) and guest of honour Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Kapil recently parted ways with Colors and Comedy Nights with Kapil ended amid a lot of mud-slinging. The situation remains ugly with Colors alleging that Kapil demanded more money and threw tantrums.

“I still don’t understand how I end up in these controversies. For instance, Sunil went off for a while to make his own show but got all the flak. Some people call me ‘Controversy King’,” Kapil said at the show’s launch. He added that switching channels is common and needs to be done if things are not working out. “You have to move on. Whatever happens is for the best,” he added. The crew was tightlipped about the new concept, only saying that the audience will get to see new things. Due to the clash with Colors, the characters of Dadi, Gutthi and Palak cannot be portrayed.

Kapil said that this show will have no particular concept or format. It will be a mix of many things. “I think it’s going to be some mohalla set-up this time,” Sumona hinted.

On reprising his cast, minus Upasana Singh (Bua), Kapil explained that he gets very attached to things and people and doesn’t want to let go of them. He believes that there are very few people who have the correct comic timing and his team includes most of these people. “I can’t do anything on my own. We all feel that if we work together, the outcome will be good,” he said.

The first episode is likely to feature SRK promoting Fan with Arjun Kapoor and Kareena promoting Ki & Ka. “For the first episode, we plan to have a live show in Delhi,” he says.
