Is doing comedy shows a conscious decisionIJ
In real life too, I am a fun-loving person. It is something that runs in the family. My children tell me that I should act like a father than this person who likes to joke all the time. So, in some ways, doing comedy comes very naturally to me. The other reason why I choose to do these kind of roles is that I want people — from the elderly to the youngest — to sit and enjoy my show. Best of luck Nikki is a show in which even a small child can understand what is happening onscreen. Nobody has to sit and explain to him.
But in films, your characters are very different. WhyIJ
While comedy comes easily to me, I want people to know that I can do serious roles as well. Hence, when I do films the characters I do are so different. But it is not as if I will not do a comedy role for a film. If the role is good and I feel I can do justice to it, I will take up the project.
Is doing serious roles a challenge for you thenIJ
Playing any character is a challenge including comedy which happens to be my forte. But when it comes to doing other kid of roles, one has to get into the character, understand what the director wants from that role and deilver it. With every role that I am given, whether it is TV or films, I bring in my own version of what I think the character should be.
What makes Best Of luck Nikki so popularIJ
like I said, the show have lots of fun element to it. Viewers can sit with their families and watch and have a good laugh. Avtaar Singh and his family is very wacky, the trouble they get into and the antics they play are funny to watch.
What are the other TV projects that you have in handIJ
There was Shastri Sisters. But that is now off air. So for now I am concentrating on Best of luck... As an actor I prefer to not do too many things at one time. First, there is the dates issue which then leads to time constrains. Though I have reached a stage where I can juggle a few projects at one time, it is better to give your 100 per cent to one show before saying yes to another.
Why is it that popular TV actors are unable to make a mark for themselves in filmsIJ
There are a few reasons. While TV industry pays well, for an actor, Bollywood is the ultimate benchmark as far as popularity goes. But the film industry doesn’t make it easy for anyone to make a name for himself. For a TV actor to make it big, he needs to completely concentrate on one thing — films. For this he needs to have enough money to sustain himself for at least two to three years for a good enough project to come his way. If the money becomes a problem, the actor is forced to take up any film that comes his way.
For a TV actor to make it big, he needs to concentrate just on films. He can’t say that he will do a lead in daily soap and do a lead in films too. In that case he should take up smaller roles.

There are a few of them, five to six films — that are to be released in the next few months including a Punjabi movie.
