After grabbing eyeballs with her performance in Jodha Akbar, Paridhi Sharma will now be seen playing a mysterious woman with supernatural powers in Ekta Kapoor’s show Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum on &TV. She talks to Sangeeta Yadav about her role and the advent of supernatural shows

nYou are making an entry in Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum asAmbika. How will the story unfold nowIJ

Ambika’s entry will bring a lot of twists in the show. There is a mystery surrounding her because of her supernatural powers. The current track shows Rahul transforming into a tiger and his ladylove Maanvi trying to rid him of the curse. Ambika will help to break that curse.

What made you say yes to this roleIJ

First, it’s Ekta Kapoor’s show and I can’t refuse to work with her. Second, it’s a cameo. I’m not going to be entangled for a very long period of time. It’s a good show and a nice opportunity to play something very different from what I did in Jodha Akbar.

What role has Ekta Kapoor played in building your career graphIJ

She was the one who actually found out the real talent in me and gave me an opportunity to play a character like Jodha. This shaped my career. I owe her my success.

Every channel has one or more shows showcasing supernatural elements. What do you have to say about itIJ

Supernatural genre has become very popular; it makes the viewers sit up and take notice. looking at its popularity, many showmakers have introduced this track. Mysterious and out-of-the-box storyline has become the mantra for wholesome entertainment on TV today.

Do you connect with such showsIJ

It’s an entertaining field and anything which is out of the normal routine and which you don’t see in the real life, people would like to know and watch it. I also enjoy watching different side of life portrayed on TV. It’s very superficial. At the end of the day, everyone knows that it is not real and it’s only there to entertain.

Anything that is missing these days on TVIJ

I miss shows on children. I remember when we were kids, I used to enjoy shows like Malgudi Days and others on Doordarshan. There should be some good shows made just for children.

Anything you have not tried even once and would like to experiment with on TVIJ

I would like to portray a politician’s character like Indira Gandhi. It really interests me.

What’s happening on the movie frontIJ

I got some offers after Jodha Akbar but somehow I didn’t see myself playing those characters. I am very happy working in TV industry and I’m not ambitious to go for a bigger screen. But if I’ll get some role which suits me and my personality then I’ll surely take it.

Is there any role that would make you uncomfortableIJ

Decent dressing is the first criteria that I look for in the roles which are offered to me. I have been brought up in such a way that I am more comfortable wearing Indian dresses. That’s my comfort zone and I am happy staying in it. If I can justify the role that dons western attire then I’ll give it a try. If I think I can’t then I would not take it no matter how big the production house is and the money being offered.

Why you decided to do a cameo. You could have done a bigger role for a longer duration...

I don’t want to play a lead at this moment as I am still enjoying my extended break. Playing a lead in a daily soap is very demanding. I’m still not prepared to make a comeback in a bigger way. I want to spend some more time with my family. I’ll take up something worthy and fulfilling a little later. Right now my family is my priority.

Any particular show on TV that you are watching these daysIJ

I don’t spent a lot of time these days watching TV. I am more into reading books and watch movies. Becoming an actress was my passion and I love acting. That’s the reason I chose this career. Not because I wanted to compare myself with what others were and are doing. What’s going on on TV never bothered me. It’s not that important to follow others’ career graph.

Are you still open to do a mythology show after your tryst with Jodha AkbarIJ

Yes of course. I feel mythology shows have become my forte. It has given me a lot of fame and a new identity. Though I am getting all kind of offers, it depends how the producer wants to mould me.
