Rated: 5.5/10

Any movie which is based on specially-abled people, means that one can’t have puns even if they fit. But what does one do when two people who are visually impaired go on a blind dateIJ All one is doing is playing with words where the aim is not to hurt the sentiments of anyone.

let’s get one thing clear. The movie is not so much about two visually challenged people but about a boy and a girl who fall in love, their perfect life is ripped apart by who else but the bad guy — here the brother (payed by Rohit Roy) of a local corporator Madhavrao Shellar played by Ronit Roy — and finally revenge.

Ronit and his brother, Rohit, play the baddie with aplomb. They are not your typical bad guys that we were used to watching in movies with the likes of Gulshan Grover, Shakti Kapoor and even Ranjit. They are the kind of people who we see on our televisions making statements that belittle women all the time.

As responsible filmmakers, one didn’t expect this from them. Imagine this scene. Ronit Roy visits Hrithik Roshan after his wife commits suicide because she has been raped not once but twice! Bad enough the first time but bordering on depravity when it happens the second time more so since she is visually impaired. His dialogue on the lines of — aisa nahin hai ki usko kuch mila. Suhaag raat toh tumne he manayi. ReallyIJ It is bad enough that we have real lifenetas making such sexist remark, it is terrible to hear something like this in a movie and that too from Rakesh Roshan! We understand that Ronit Roy plays a gunda neta but how could the Censor Board pass this considering that they keep having problems with profanities and scenes in most of the movies. If this is not irresponsible cinema one wonders what isIJ

But if you do manage to get over this dialogue thenKaabil does redeem somewhat when it comes to action. Hrithik Roshan would be looking to redeem himself as well after the debacle of Mohenjo Daro. Does heIJ

As Rohan Bhatnagar, his moves are fantastic whether on the 40 by 40 feet dance floor or the quest he embarks on  as a one-man Army using his heightened sense of smell and hearing to derail the baddies.

No prizes for guessing who wins and who walks away. Hrithik Roshan is the hero. Seldom does the hero in Bollywood movies come out looking as if he has lost. Kaabil is not different.

However, despite the film being regressive, it has some nice action sequences though nothing new that one has not seen in Hollywood movies making it somewhat watchable.
