Whine, whine, whine. If one can get over this aspect of Shaadi ke Side Effects one may actually sit back and enjoy this one with a bucket of popcorn and a tall glass of cola. Unfortunately, the complaint element is so in-your-face that it becomes a tad difficult to get past it. With a title like Shaadi... one doesn’t have to be a genius to guess what is to unfold from the word go — a happily married couple whose live goes into a spin — for the worse — when they have a baby.
The first half of the movie has plenty of fun-element and the songs are passable. It is the second half where the drama and melancholy sets in. Why would director Saket Chaudhary, who has earlier directed Pyar Ke Side Effects want to take away the entertainment quotient leaves one confused. Why could the film not continue to be on the lighter track instead of giving into the Indian sensibility when it comes the sanctity of marriage remains a mystery.
But probably what is more glaring is Vidya Balan and her weight issues. One is not saying that she has to be size zero but one is sure that even she is aware that she is no svelte bimbette. Therefore, wearing shirts, dresses, nighties, etc that show her thunder thighs that scream on the 70 mm screen are difficult to ignore. The same has to be said for Ram Kapoor.
Farhan Akhtar as the hubby on the receiving end has given a convincing performance. Rati Agnihotri, Vir Das and Illa Arun have also managed to do justice to their characters.
Over all, a movie that is predictable with some laugh-out-loud moments.
