Rated: 7/10
Very seldom does one get to see a satire handled maturely in Bollywood but director Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi has achieved this with aplomb in Zed Plus. The movie is full of one-liners that tickles the funny bone every once in a while.
The movie is not a laugh-out-loud or in-your-face kind satire on the Indian political scenario. It is more about how life changes for a poor puncture repair guy in Fatehpur Sikri because he is the man responsible for the Peepal Pir rituals on the very day the Prime Minister is supposed to pay his obeisance to him.
What will strike you about this movie is its simplicity. The actors are not too over powering and yet deliver the punches when required. Kudos to the dialogue writer who has not tried to do much with his script. It is in common parlance.
Adil Hussain as the puncturewala to wannabe politician is a perfect fit for this role. Although he needs to fine tune his ‘angry husband’ voice. In this film, for instance, he becomes too shrill to have an impact. Mona Singh as a chappal saleswoman does her bit well. Kulbhushan Kharbanda as the English-speaking PM and Sanjay Mishra don’t have much to do.
Zed Plus could have easily been the must watch for the week had it been a tad shorter. But it still makes for a good one-time experience.
