Playing a negative role is something different for actress RATI PANDEY. But she is enjoying every moment. In conversation with PRAKRITI ROY, she talks about the show
Tell us about your character Komal on the show Begusarai.
She is witty and chirpy, she is intelligent but negative, a very strong character and a very strong woman. She has come into the family with a motive – to destroy the entire Thakur family. She manages to manipulate and dominate everyone by being on the inside, without them even knowing.
In the current track, there is a lot of mystery surrounding the character of Sarkar and Bindiya’s (Shweta Tiwari) actions….
Well, Sarkar is our boss and everything that is happening is being controlled by him. He is the one giving the orders, the motive is still not revealed but it is linked to him. Shweta and I are just his pawns, dancing to his directions.
This is the first time you’re playing a full-fledged negative character…
Earlier, I had played a negative role in Hitler Didi, but that was a double role. Here, it is a completely negative character. Although I wanted to play a positive role, the channel believed that I could pull it off and convinced me.
Any special preparations to pick up the character traits and distinct accentIJ
The accent is what attracted me in the first place. Because she is not vampish to look at, as such. In fact, she is quite the diva of Begusarai, very confident of her beauty and not too much make-up piled on. It is her accent that makes her different. Plus, the people can relate to the show and character because of the accent. I belong to Bihar myself, so I did not have any trouble picking it up.
In what ways has the TV industry changed since you first started offIJ
There are changes with every show, as they follow different patterns. However, the idea of the daily soap masala is still the same. There are changes in scripting but the content is similar. Sometimes, we feel that this has already been done and that is kind of irritating for me.
Do you think this lack of good content is a problemIJ
Yes, I do. It is a problem, but not critical. Personally, I feel that daily soap should last only for a year or so; after that usually the content looks forceful. The thing is that people believe too much in ratings; they should just focus on creating good content. There are so many great shows with very little TRP. Because of the masala, the matter suffers. If seasons and finite series are introduced, I will be the happiest person. Then we can focus on doing good work, giving good messages and then saying good-bye when the work is done and content is over.
