A real take on Air Force training

A real take on Air Force training
Published on:

It’s a dream of many to be able to fight for the nation, to fly high in the sky and make their country proud. Yet, the common man knows little about the process. ‘There is no second place in war’, is the essence of training of Forces.

Discovery Channel takes its extremely popular Breaking Point franchise forward with their new four-part series Air Force Academy. It will launch on Discovery Channel and on Veer, India’s first dedicated military channel available on Jio TV and YouTube, from June 4 every Monday at 9 pm.

After The Indian Submariners, a show from the perspective of the common man, watched by over 1.5 crore audience, this show will throw light on the training imparted at India’s premier Air Force training institution — the Air Force Academy — located in Hyderabad. It will also show the grit, determination, courage and skill of the cadets. “Military related content has been among the top 10 topics that the audience wants,” Zulfia Waris, vice-president Discovery Communications India. Veer, a channel started for exclusive content on the Forces, has been getting a lot of attention from viewers. Waris claims, everything in the world can be bought except viewer interest, and that, she says, is a clear indication of the quality of their content.

The show will fly you through the experience of cadets Mudit Tewari, Priya Sharma, Amogh Bhandralia and Kartik Thakur in different stages of training at the Academy. The story, presented in a first person narrative, will help the audience get an insight into and an understanding of what goes on in the minds of these young men and women, as also the determination required by the cadets to go through this intense training.

“You have to earn the blue uniform and you can actually see them striving for it in the show through a first person narrative which makes a huge difference. Right from packing your dabba from home, to getting that first haircut as a cadet, the rigorous training and all the other aspects have been beautifully shown,” Waris asserts. Viewing the show’s teaser at a recent event in New Delhi, Air Marshal Amit Tiwari said: “They have managed to capture the essence. Psychological, mental and physical strengths are all put to test when everyone trains together,” he added.
