Fails to impress

Samrat & Co

Starring: Rajeev Khandelwal, Madalasa Sharma, Priyanshu Chatterjee

Rated:4/10

The difference between a mystery being a real stunning mystery and a story taking you round and round in circles in trying to pass off as a mystery, is the same as the difference you will starkly see between Kahani and Samrat & Co.

For those who are still to forget Sujal in the TV serial Kahin To Hoga, this one would centre around him and his worship. For those looking for some kind of story engagement, it all boils down to fizzless cola in the end.

Khandelwal makes a return to cinema after a break and despite him enjoying a reputation of choosing films judiciously, has gone all wrong with Samrat... The story is sluggish, too make-believe, somewhat flat and it never really emerges as a viable murder mystery. I could sport the killer right away so deliberate is the layer around him. As the detective on the job, Khandelwal tries hard to be eccentric in his own way, has an unrequired spring in his step and delivers too many one-liners that are misfits. The film could’ve been so much better.
