Around 500 supporters first took out a march on Bistupur-Sakchi Main Road and sitting on a dharna in front of Tata Steel general office gate at around 11 am in the process blocking the gate.

latter, senior Tata Steel met the agitators and assured them that their demands would be raised in front of management which led to lifting of the blockade.

The zilla parishad deputy chairperson said that most of the non- Tata employees living in city and outskirts depend on Tata Main Hospital (TMH) for treatment and the hike in fees was causing problem in availing medical facility.

“People rely for availing specialized medical treatment. The company has been providing treatment at nominal rate but recently it has increased the admission fees at ICU/CCU to Rs 20,000 which is unreasonable. We had written to the hospital management and even sat on dharna near the hospital in October. But nothing happened forcing us to take this step of blocking company gate,” added Singh.

Admission fees to ICU/CCU at TMH was hiked from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 in September this year
