Youth falls into 20 feet deep ditch from culvert, dies

A 30-year-old youth died after he fell into a 20 feet deep ditch with his motorcycle while passing through a local culvert at Hasanasingha under Dumari police station on  Wednesday morning. The biker, identified as Rajesh Turi, a resident of Chainpur village, near Dumari in Giridih district, police said.

Police said Turi was heading towards Hasanasingha village on his bike on Wednesday early morning when the accident took place. A culvert over the local drain connects Chainpur village to Hasanasingha village. A portion of the left side of the Culvert has been damaged due to lack of maintenance, and people use only the right side for commuting.

As it was early morning, Rajesh could not spot the damaged portion. “The speeding bike fell into the 20 feet deep, and the rider died on the spot due to head injuries,” a police officer said. When he did not reach home, Turi’s family members tried to contact him, but his phone was not reachable. They launched a search. When they went through the route Turi had taken, they discovered the skid marks of his bike’s tyres near the damaged portion of the culvert.

His family then informed cops and a police team soon reached the spot and found Turi was laying on the ground. He was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
