Youngsters for more transparency in governance

As the Lok Sabha elections is in full swing with enthusiasm and passionate campaigning on each party’s part making promises to the citizens to tackle their issues, the youth of the Capital city are also very keen to communicate the various expectations and issues they have from the upcoming government. Their issues range from subjects like poverty and employment alongwith a more transparent and inclusive government.

Two of the major concerns that these students had were poverty and generation of employment. Interlinking the two aspects, Ritu Muskaan, a third year student from St Xavier’s College said, “Majority population of the country is poor. Only when there are more employment opportunities poverty can be eradicated as it would not only help the youth but also the poor to earn money and have a sustainable living.”

“India has been a developing economy for many decades from now. Countries like China that were once a developing economy, with better use of its resources moved faster towards becoming a developed economy, whereas India, despite having the resources in abundance, is still recovering. Our country can only progress if the government makes use of the available resources more effectively,” added Muskaan.

Employment is becoming a major issue among the youths. They have lost all hopes from the government as they feel the government has not done much for them in the past years. Armaan Hashmi, a State level cricket player expressed his disappointment in the government and said, “The unemployment rate among young people is very high as the government has failed to fulfill its policy to generate more income and employment opportunities. This condition of the country only makes me worry about my future.”

He further said, “The policies of the government are well enough but they lack proper implementation. It is a key issue as everything is implemented on the top and fails to make its presence and significance among the grass roots.” He wished that the upcoming government would work on the proper implementation of the policies

Stressing on the importance of education, Prince Kumar of S.S Memorial College, Ranchi said, “Education is the key to everything and it can do wonders in bringing about a change. The government should pay more attention towards implementing more education related policies as it would facilitate in creating more awareness and learning opportunities.”

The youth have also expressed their demand for a more transparent government as Pooja Kumari, a student of S.S Memorial College, said, “We receive very little, almost negligible information about what is happening within the system. Being on the receiving end we would definitely like the government to give us more details about what is happening in the inside,”

She also stressed upon the topic of the inclusion of minorities as a major issue. “The minority section has been deprived of opportunities to come forward. There exclusion from the system leads to ignorance of their problems and demands. Until they become a part of the government, their voice won’t be heard and problems won’t be addressed.”

“The government should be more inclusive. The country is turning into a capitalist economy and one such good example is the Rafael deal and the alleged favoritism towards Ambani. There should be equal chances for the small scale industries to grow as well” said Aditi Sidhant, a student from Xavier’s.
