Social Media like Facebook and Twitter became the latest mode of showcasing indelible ink on index finger after casting vote for the youngsters of lohardaga, Koderma, Palamau and Chatra districts on Thursday. It was the first polling phase of Jharkhand wherein youngsters uploaded their vote casted finger photos with interesting caption as well as writing an encouraging status for the same initiative.
Psychologists termed this techno-savvy mood as a significant role of persuading other youth towards voting. “Audio-Visual medium has a crucial task in spreading awareness on voting. Observing such pictures, today’s young cadre connects self with the strength of voting. It is undoubtedly the best way of realizing the constitutional duty of a responsible citizen,” former Director of Ranchi Institute of Neuro-Psychiatry and Allied Sciences (RINPAS) Dr Amool Ranjan said.
Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) senior resident Dr Varun quoted this attitude as ‘kind of publicity on voting’. He said, “Nowadays even the rural youth are available on FB and Twitter. Earlier, they used to be isolated from this electioneering process. Such innovative updates are motivating rural youngsters to cast their votes like urban ones.”
The example of this fact was a clearly visible by National University of Study and Research in law (NUSRl) public relations officer Satya Kumar, a resident of lohardaga who shared a similar photo on his Facebook timeline with a caption mentioning “Soch samajh kar denge vote..ab nahi chalega daaru aur note” (will vote judicially, liquor and money will not work anymore).
“This photo upload and status update indicates the ‘knowledge of youth on vote’. Also it is a proof of showing my region’s candidate that I have voted and now it is your turn to fulfill our expectations,” Koderma resident Ranesh said.
Meanwhile, Chatra’s Yogendra Yadav was pleased with this concept. He preferred writing comments on such photographs of his friends in other states as well where the polls were held in past few days. He said, “Voting is always a lifetime opportunity to make us feel that we are proud citizens of this democratic nation.”
One such social media addicted Tuhinanshu Chaturvedi insisted his friend to upload the indelible inked finger at the earliest. “Click the snap and put it on FB or Twitter or as Whatsapp profile picture”, he wrote on his friend’s timeline.
