Youngest MLA Tirkey upset with House disruption

Published on:

Congress newly elected MLA from Mandar Shilpi Neha Tirkey-- the youngest MLA of the State is upset with three-day deadlock in the Jharkhand Assembly. On Tuesday, Tirkey got the chance to speak in the House for the first time but she had to face repeated disruptions created by Opposition MLAs.

Upset Neha Tirkey said that she reached the House for the first time and thought that there would be an opportunity to learn legislative work in the House from close quarters, but the scene that I have been seeing in the House for three days brings shame. After all, what would the public think after seeing the conduct of the MLAs?  She said that the Opposition says that dictatorship is happening but everyone knows who is doing dictatorship. The BJP is doing dictatorship all over the country.

Congress candidate Shilpi Neha Tirkey won the by-election to Jharkhand's Mandar seat, defeating her nearest rival, BJP's Gangotri Kujur, by a margin of 23,517 votes, the by-election for which was held in June this year.

Shilpi Neha, the daughter of former legislator Bandhu Tirkey and also supported by the ruling JMM-led coalition.  The by-poll was necessitated after the disqualification of Bandhu Tirkey as an MLA in the wake of his conviction in a corruption case.

Tirkey who was not allowed to speak said that democracy is being murdered by BJP people who leave no stone unturned to suppress the voice of the opposition in Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha. People of BJP talk about corruption but keep silent on Rafale. She said that rapid development work is being done under the leadership of Hemant Soren.

The way the Hemant Soren led government worked with limited resources during the Corona period was appreciated by the people of the whole country. She said that the government is working on the paths given by Dishom Guru Shibu Soren. This government is moving fast on the dream Shibu Soren of Jharkhand used to see. Shilpi Neha Tirkey's first speech was welcomed by the House by thumping the table. The Speaker also congratulated him.

On Tuesday, Assembly Speaker, Rabindra Nath Mahto on Tuesday suspended four BJP MLAs for disrupting House proceedings till August 4. The four MLAs who were suspended till August 4—a day before the Assembly Monsoon session concludes are MLAs Bhanu Pratap Shahi, Dhulu Mahto, Jaiprakash Bhai Patel and Randhir Singh were suspended from the House for unruly behavior.

On Tuesday, as the House commenced, the BJP MLAs entered the Well of the House demanding resignation of the Chief Minister in a corruption case. The Speaker tried to pacify the agitating MLAs, however they were not ready to hear the Speaker.
