There is good news for the young Jharkhand State sportspersons representing at national and international tournaments. The State Government would soon introduce sports quota in State Government job entrance exams for such sports achievers.
Highlighting the issue, State Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Geetashree Oraon on Sunday informed that they have taken this step after the achievement of Chaibasa’s hockey player Bigan Soy who helped the Indian Junior Women’s Hockey team grab the Bronze medal in Junior Hockey Women’s World Cup on August 4 beating England by 3-2.
“We are mulling to give scopes to outstanding national and international sports youth of the State in job exams like State Service Commission and Railway exams so that they get an established source of economic stability.”
Adding further she said, “We are also planning to provide better education facilities to these players so as to nurture their academic skills as well.”
Oraon held a meeting with sports authorities on Saturday wherein discussions on Sports University, upcoming 2nd Junior South Asian Federation Athletic Championships and yet to be given sports
provisions to talented persons were focused on.
Geetashree expressed her disappointment at a portion of the infrastructure built for water sports at the Maithon Dam during the 34th National Games and crying for maintenance. “I have given an instruction to prepare a proposal calling interested people to develop this hostel,” she said.
It is to be noticed Geetashree Oraon is eager to utilise the available sports infrastructure within the state so that the funds granted to Jharkhand from the Central government does not lapse.
The Minister is also willing to save around `25 lakh from the SAF games budget of
`2 crore if it gets a green signal from the union ministry. She said, “For the convenience of foreign players in regard to accommodation, transportation, practice and security aspects we hope to manage all at Khelgaon itself so that the city people are not bothered with traffic or any other hurdles during the organisation of these games.”
