A four feet long cobra was rescued from a 20-feet deep irrigational well at Koodaga village by a young girl and her aides on Sunday.

Jyoti Kumari, who works in tiger reserve Palamu, and her team of 7 dedicated young boys and girls namely Vivek Tiwary, Gaurav Verma, Anshika  Srivastava, Ravi Prakash Gupta, Santosh Ram and Malti Swansi rescued the serpent from the well.

As per the version of the irrigational well owner Anirudh Prajapati, the cobra was in the well for past eight days and turned aggressive with every passing day.

Sources said in this Covid 19 pandemic when doctors are refusing to attend patients, Jyoti and her team rushed to Prajapati today to rescue the snake in his well.

Jyoti said, “As there was too much water in this huge well and there was no tool to go inside it even by the villagers we decided to use our bucket method.”

“We put in one iron bucket in the well. The snake came and sat between the rope and the bucket. We started pulling it slowly so as the snake may not slip again and fall in the well,” she added.

She said, “When the bucket and the snake on it were just one foot down in the well we used snake tong and brought the snake on the surface. It was later left in the nearby jungle.”

She has asked villagers to walk at night with torch light as deadly reptiles come out of their hideouts during monsoon nights.

Jyoti Kumari has been trained to be a master snake, monitor lizard rescuer by AK Mishra, now a retired IFS officer.
