For yoga teacher Kumari Shweta, who has been involved with the ancient practice from much before the trend started, yoga is not just a form of exercise but is a way of attaining inner peace and overall well being. The 31- year-old yoga teacher from the Capital City secured the second position at the All India Yoga Competition 2019 held in April.
“For me fitness is not about going to the gym but something that can be done in the comfort of your home. Yoga is not something for a specific age group, but instead it is something that can be done across all age brackets and genders. In today’s fast paced life, yoga not only helps in being fit but is also one of the best ways to distress,” said Shweta.
A trained yoga teacher from Paramahansa Yogendra Yoga Aashram, Shweta is presently pursuing her MA in yogic studies. She is also a certified level 1 zumba instructor. “When conducting classes, I try to give my students a very personalized experience keeping their problems in mind. I also try to focus on the overall flexibility with added fat loss activities. My classes also have a twist of doing yoga and zumba together making it a fun activity,” she added. She conducts group classes Ashtanga, power yoga and zumba at various centres in the capital city. Shweta started doing yoga at a very young age and has also won various competitions at the district and state level. “I was always conscious about being fit. I had to stop the practice while pursuing my MBA in Finance and it was then that I realised what I actually wanted to do in life was make a career in yoga,” she recalls.
The yoga enthusiast aspires to do a PhD in the subject and add more forms of fitness to her bag like Pilates and Ariel yoga in the coming years.
She strongly believes that support from her parents in her off beat profession has helped her reach where she is.“Initially my parents were a little apprehensive with my career choice but they have always taught me to ever give up and always believe that my future could be whatever I want to make of it.
Seeing me so consistent with my work and winning at the national level, I feel my parents are very proud of me today,” she adds.
