XLRI- Xavier School of Management is organising the Jamshedpur Joy Fest- ‘Daan Utsav’ from October 2 to 8 in association with SIGMA (Social Initiative Group for Managerial Assistance).
Prof Madhukar Shukla, the brain behind the initiative, said that this festival aims at engaging the entire city of Jamshedpur for the noble cause of donating (Daan) by working with schools, NGOs, industrial houses, various communities and the general public as well.
The underlying theme is ‘Donate for dignity’ which encompasses city-wide initiatives inviting donations for material resources and redistributing them to the under-served segments of the society through NGOs and other civil service organisations.
The donation of materials can be anything from Vastra-Samman - the donation of clothes, blankets, and shawls to Ann-Daan – the donation and distribution of dry ration including rice, wheat, etc. The initiative also invites donation of unused medicines which can be contributed to the NGOs around the city.
The event was kick-started with the active participation of many dignitaries from around the city which included principals from reputed schools, leaders of the CSR wings of industrial houses and NGO administrators were briefed everyone about the plans for the initiatives.
It is urged that more donors come forward and bring joy to the lives of the under-served by truly living up to the spirit of ‘Daan Utsav’. Social Initiative Group for Managerial Assistance, popularly known as SIGMA, was founded in year 2002 to work towards the social causes in and around Jamshedpur. The committee has taken up various social causes over the time, resulting in the reputation that is now associated with it. The SIGMA team also works in coherence and collaboration with the NGOs, and all the other concerned parties to make a better living for those around us. From the smallest acts of helping to the larger efforts in conducting city-level donation drives, the team works towards the social causes covering varying segments of the society.
