XLRI and CMC Ludhiana to elevate healthcare education and research

Published on:

XLRI and Christian Medical College (CMC) Ludhiana, renowned for its pioneering contributions to the medical field, have joined hands in a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This strategic collaboration aims to develop and offer innovative management programs and collaborative research to meet the evolving needs of healthcare professionals.

XLRI, established in 1949 by Jesuit Fr. Quinn Enright, SJ, and CMC Ludhiana, founded by Dame Edith Mary Brown in 1894 as Asia's first medical school for women, both boast rich legacies of providing high-quality education. These institutions, consistently ranked among the top private educational establishments in India, have set benchmarks in their respective fields.

XLRI was the first to start a full-time management program in Industrial Welfare in the year 1953 and successfully pioneered many educational and management development programs through the online mode since 2002. CMC Ludhiana started India’s first medical school for women and has been at the forefront of medical advances that include the world’s first total face replant surgery, and the first telemedicine center established by an educational institution. Both institutions are driven by a common mission to serve the greater good of the nation.

The MoU signing ceremony took place at CMC Ludhiana in the presence of notable dignitaries, including Fr. K.S. Casimir (Director, XLRI Delhi-NCR Campus), Dr. William Bhatti (Director, CMC Ludhiana), Dr. Allen Joseph (Medical Superintendent, CMC Ludhiana), and others.

Fr. K.S. Casimir highlighted the collaboration's significance in addressing India's challenge of providing affordable, accessible, equitable, and high-quality healthcare services. He expressed excitement about partnering with CMC Ludhiana to equip professionals with cutting-edge management practices tailored for the Indian healthcare sector.

Dr. William Bhatti, Director of CMC Ludhiana, emphasized the institution's commitment to giving back to society and fulfilling its founder's dream of serving India's people. He stated that professionalizing the management of hospitals and health systems was imperative, aligning with the nation's current healthcare needs.

Dr. Samuel N J David, Associate Director HR and Admin at CMC Ludhiana, shared insights into modernizing the medical profession and the importance of professional management skills in healthcare institutions. He recognized the opportunity to bridge the gap between medical expertise and management skills through collaboration with XLRI.

This partnership aims to launch its first set of programs in March 2024, marking a significant step toward elevating healthcare education and research in India. As both institutions celebrate milestones - XLRI's platinum jubilee year and CMC Ludhiana's enduring commitment to serving the nation - this collaboration promises to open new horizons for the greater good of society, aligning with the founders' noble visions.
