Dancing queen Saroj Khan, who is a new toast for small screen as a judge of many reality show along with her bollywood dance tutorial was in Ranchi to judge a grand finale of reality show “Dance for chance” on Saturday. In an exclusive interview with The Pioneer she said that she is in search of a blooming talent from Jharkhand.
You have worked in more than 200 movies so how would you describe the challenges you faced earlier to that of nowIJ
Earlier artists were sincere towards their work but now artists are more money-minded they lack sincerity towards their profession and the reason behind this is that more money leads to abstract mind like in early days for one movie Geeta Bali was asked to play Bhangam role she used mud in her hairs to portray the actual look but now if an artist is asked to play a role of poor person then they have matching earrings and bangles in their get up so in this way they lack in sincerity. Eariler films were based on reality but now it is more fiction.
Do you feel that reality shows have restricted the dance to a limited western style form only like contemporary, hip hop, slow motion …IJ
Yes, I completely agree with it in our industry or say in television there is a herd minded trend. This reality show Nach Baliye was started by me but since then the same dance form, partners, are followed up till now nothing new or creative has been added to it.
India is rich in various dance forms but it is not that popular as western dance forms what is the reason behind itIJ
The biggest reason is the audience they feel it like a treat to watch the western dance form so they are more inclined towards it. Though we make lot of efforts to up bring our Indian culture dance form I fight with my producers on it but they say that am investing for people and I have to keep in mind my viewer’s choice so I will show them that only what they love to watch. If we have to flourish Indian dance form then audience have to change their mind set.
Madhuri Dixit has made a comeback in Bollywood and you have worked with her in Gulabi Gang so how was your experience with herIJ It was a wonderful experience working with her and she is as graceful as she was on her early days in dance. It is always fun to work with her.
Any other actor or actress of present generation who has been your favourite as a dancerIJ Apart from Madhuri Dixit, I never saw any other actor or actress by that sense. All are the same in my eye.
What would you like to say about Ranchi and its peopleIJ It is a beautiful city and people are very lovely and humble and I am here to judge grand finale of a reality show. I am looking forward to good performances.
