Though the Special Fast Track Court set up for women related cases in Ranchi is efficiently dealing with the cases on day to day basis, it is facing paucity of human resources leading to huge work load on employees. The court has maintained its pace since its commencement on January five.
“At a given period of time, a fast-track court should not hear more than 100 cases in order to work smoothly. This court is functioning maximum to its capacity.” said Civil Court Registrar Amitesh lal.
The special court established to deal cases exclusively for crime against women is listed with around 40 cases every day wherein seven to eight witnesses are examined. Cases are increasing day by day. “Similar courts are required in the coming days to make it more fast track”, added the Registrar. There are six employees in the special court comprising 1 Bench clerk, Office Clerk, Deposition Writer, Stenographer and two fourth grade staffs.
“Keeping the increasing cases in consideration, we do need one to two more such courts so that our work is balanced,” said a staff at this court requesting not to mention his name and designation.
Another staff informed that cases take time to mature. In the entire month of January cases were registered of which many have been heard. last month in the 17 working days, the Judge has dealt with more than 100 cases, say sources. Sources even said that sometimes the Special Court Judge Seema Sinha remains in the court than the fixed hours of the court if a hearing is going on.
Forty-five cases have been disposed within January 5 to March 30 and by the end of March month 473 cases (both civil and criminal) are pending at this special court.
The court was formally inaugurated by Supreme Court judge, Justice MY Eqbal on January 6 to deal with the crimes against women. Jharkhand became the second
State to take a step that is being held as a crying need following the brutal gang rape in Delhi last December. Among the women facing crime cases like Abduction, Rape, Murder, Kidnapping, and Dowry death are the maximum involved cases here.
