A group of women, resident of Mahadeo Manda under Chutiya Police Station in the State capital protested vehemently against opening of wine shop in the densely populated residential area of Shiv Manda and forced them to shift the shops in another area. The Excise department had given license for private owner to open a total of three separate foreign liquor shop in stretch of 500 meters of the area.

Speaking on the issue one of the protesting women Vibha Devi said Shiv Mandar is very dense residential area and the road is very narrow. “It is only one road for family, girl and women for connecting to important roads. The shops were opened in fully residential area. The people living in area mostly women and girls were getting very annoyance with shops. The customers left their glass and bottles in front of our houses. They consumed liquor in front of our house because women, girls and children were getting very difficulties to go outside from the house”, she added.

A large numbers of people gathered near the shops demanding the shop owners to close their shops on Sunday. A police team of Chutiya Police Station and officials of Excise Department had to intervene in the matter to pacify the residents and with their efforts the protestors stopped their protest.

Another woman resident Shila Kumari said that we have stopped going outside from home due to the opening of the shops. “Generally people used to come to the shops in the evening from 5 o’clock. With the time of sunset many of the customers were starts drinking wine near the shops openly on the road. In such kind of situation we feel awkward. As each shop is opened in residential area so if people taking wine openly it creates situation of uproar.  So it should be close as its earliest,” she added.

One of the shop owners Navin Kumar said it was difficult for us to run shop at Mahadeo Manda due to fears protest. “I have shifted my shop from that place to Chutiya Railway Station Road because closure of two days of the shop cost me hard. The department has permitted me to open the shop at Chutiya Station Road. Other two shop owners were also looking for another place to shift their shop from the place”, he added.
