A 21-year-old woman, fasting for Chhath festival, was allegedly strangulated to death on Saturday at her residence in Sondiha village under Dhurki police station area, around 65 km from the district headquarters, police said on Sunday.
The incident came to fore after villagers informed her parents about Chanchala Devi’s death. Her family raised an alarm and contacted police after they noticed ligature marks on her neck.
Police have found her death to be an unnatural one and said that it will be clear from the post-mortem report whether she hanged herself to death or was strangled by someone. The father of the deceased has lodged a complaint against her husband and three others with the local police station. Devi’s father Anuj Paswan said, “My daughter got married to Ajay Ram in 2017. Chanchala was being harassed by her in-laws for dowry.”
Meanwhile, the body has been sent for post-mortem to get a clearer picture. The police have detained Sachin and are waiting for the post-mortem report to complete the investigation, police said.
