A woman was scammed at a Punjab National Bank ATM in Garhwa town. This is the latest in a series of scams at this ATM.
While withdrawing money, a young man approached her. He said she was inserting her card incorrectly. She trusted him and let him help. Instead, he transferred ₹25,000 from her account to another account. He gave her card back, saying her account was empty, and then ran away.
The woman only realised she had been scammed when she got a message on her phone confirming the withdrawal. She reported the incident to the Sadar police station. The police are investigating.
The bank said it is not responsible for the ATM's security. However, there are no security measures at the ATM. This has led to several similar scams targeting women from rural areas.
