Woman saved from rare, life-threatening heart condition

A near-fatal cardiac emergency turned into a story of hope and healing at Wellmark Hospital Bokaro, thanks to the swift and expert intervention of renowned cardiologist and Chairman Dr. Satish.

Recently, a woman in her 50s was referred to in a collapsed state from Jamui, Bihar. She had been experiencing 10 fainting episodes daily for the past few weeks, despite having no prior chronic illness. Alarmingly, her heart rate had surged to 220 bpm. Upon arrival, the Wellmark Heart Centre team immediately cardioverted her using DC shocks, but she slipped into Complete Heart Block. Dr. Satish and his team swiftly installed an emergency external pacemaker, reviving her just in time.

Her medical history revealed a rare condition—Non-Ischaemic Cardiomyopathy with fibrosis and an aneurysm in the heart’s lower chamber wall. After expert discussions, she was diagnosed with a rare Left Ventricular variant of Arrhythmogenic Dysplasia and urgently required an AICD (Automated Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator).

When cost became a hurdle, Dr. Satish personally reached out to device makers Medtronic, who helped make the life-saving device affordable. The implant was successfully completed.

“The smile on her face was the best reward,” said Dr. Satish, whose decades of experience and personal commitment were central to the outcome.Today, the patient is being discharged in stable condition—smiling and grateful. “Her recovery is our biggest reward,” said Dr. Satish.
