Jyoti Mallick (35), whose seven months’ old sick daughter Deepali Mallick is undergoing treatment for last five days at Nutrition Rehabilitation Center in the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here, on Monday attempted to commit suicide by jumping from a three-storey building of the hospital. She suffered critical injuries.
Jyoti is wife of Sunakar Mallick of Mukundapur under the Kendrapada Sadar police limits. As none of her family members was present in the hospital, the medical authority is now taking care of the sick girl, besides injured Jyoti and her other 2-year-old daughter.
Meanwhile, CDMO Manoj Behera urged the superintendent of the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack to provide free treatment to the mother and her baby as Jyoti’s condition was critical. Her baby is suffering from malnutrition.
According to Priyanka Priyadarshini Panda of the Nutrition Rehabilitation Center (DHH), while the two daughters of Jyoti were asleep, the latter on Monday afternoon asked the attendant to unlock the gate of the roof to bring back her saree. However, after going to the roof, the woman jumped from the three storied building.
“The woman had been upset on Monday morning as her husband in an inebriated mood allegedly had come to the hospital and scolded her. Even, two days before, the same man had come to the hospital and assaulted Jyoti. This could be the cause why the ill-fated woman was taking the extreme step,” informed Behera.
It may be noted here that Jyoti in past had attempted to commit suicide at a Cuttack hospital. “It seems she had developed suicidal tendency after remaining upset for long due to continuous family.
