Palamu administration had a taste of women empowerment when a woman ward councillor Kaveeta Devi sat for two days and one night in the premise of the Medininagar Nagar Parshad demanding disbursement of pensions to aged, widows and disabled listed as old cases and freshers too.
The list gets over hauled from time to time since these pensioners continue to perish with their age.
This woman ward commissioner told The Pioneer that these pensions are all over due for the last 12 to 14 months. All her pleas to disburse till now has gone unattended by the administration.
She said ‘She would rather die than drag her feet on this issue’. And she sat boldly and bravely.
She said there was none from the police side to protect her at night. She becomes the first woman to sit on 'Anshan' in past 25 years.
Sensing more trouble and public sympathy going in support of this woman ward councillor the DC Palamu K Srinivasan sent his emissary Zulfikar Ansari the Sadar BDO to end this crisis.
Sources said the BDO Sadar had three rounds of talks with the agitating ward councillor Kaveeta Devi and others sitting with her for solidarity.
On Tuesday evening the stir was called off. However the woman ward commissioner fell unconscious this Tuesday evening. Doctor was rushed in and her BP was checked.
DC Palamu K Srinivasan said once the administration here is in receipt of fund for these varied pensions it will be disbursed among the beneficiaries.
Sadar BDO Ansari said he has sought 15 days time for this. He also said he gave this assurance in writing.
