Sajia Haidar, an independent candidate from Ranchi constituency, has filed a written complaint at the Hindpri police station of having been threatened for contesting elections. The hooligans also thrashed her brother-in-law Shahbaz at her house at Khet Mohalla in Hindpiri.
According to a named FIR registered against Chand, Kolu and Petu of the same locality, some 10-12 people came to her house and asked Sajia to come out. After not finding her in the house, they threatened Shahbaz of dire consequences for fielding Sazia in the coming elections.
“They asked either to take my name back or not to go out for campaigning during the polls,” stated the FIR.
The police looking into the matter said that few people drove into the campus, having no gate, of their house on a tractor for turning it back who had a minor scuffle after Shahbaz objected them.
“An FIR has been lodged by the candidate herself who has requested the police to cooperate or she will have to pull her name back from the election fray,” said officer in charge of Hindpri Police Station. No any political party has been named by her in the complaint, he added.
Sajia, however, meeting with the Election Commission officials has formally informed about the incident and appealed to provide proper security to her and her family members. No arrests have been made by the police so far. Sajia is one of the few women candidates contesting the lok Sabha elections in the State.
