Dead bodies of a 24-year-old woman and her minor son were found floating in a village well at Deoridih village under Deori police station area of Giridih district on Sunday morning. The bodies were identified as Soni Devi, wife of Mantu Yadav and her 5-year-old son, Sumit Kumar.
The incident came into light at around 6 am, only when some of the villagers noticed the dead bodies floating in the well and informed others in this regard.
Soon after getting information, Deori police visited the site of the occurrence and looked into the matter.
“Nothing much can be ascertained unless we complete our investigation process”, said Saroj Singh Chowdhury, Officer in-Charge, Deori Police station. He added that the police were looking into every aspect of the incident.
“Actually, both were reportedly missing for the past couple of days. The deceased’s husband, Mantu Yadav, had lodged a complaint in this connection on Friday evening”, police said.
The incident has however raised alarm among the villagers who are questioning whether it is suicide or a murder.
A case has been instituted at Deori police station in this connection and the dead have been sent to the Giridih Sadar hospital for autopsy.
