Giving a big jolt to leftwing extremism, the Government has joined hands with BSNl to provide wi-fi facilities in Maoist affected areas of the State. In the process all 782 mobile towers installed by BSNl in such areas would be used for installing wi-fi that would provide internet connectivity of 2 mbps speed.
“Total 53.95 crore has been approved and Rs17.98 crore has been sanctioned for 2016-17 for this purpose. All the towers are solar powered and by this the areas would be connected with outside world. Jharkhand is the first State to use the facility for this purpose,” said Sunil Kumar Barnwal. The agreement with BSNl is for three years.
