Pleasing weather arrived to the capital city accompanied by thunderstorm and drizzling on Good Friday with taking people by surprise in several parts of the state.
On the evening of festival of colours-Holi, which marks the onset of the spring the weather turned pleasant in the city with maximum temperature dropping four degrees below normal due to overcast sky and a few spells of light and rain.
Maximum temperature in the city was 33 degree Celsius from the mid of March. Almost similar conditions were witnessed in other parts of the state.
“The ‘heat generated’ due to high mercury level created a low pressure area in the atmosphere, which made conditions favourable for the advancement locally developed clouds with cyclonic circulation with feeble role of the western disturbance (WD),” said A. Wadood, Scientist at Birsa Agricultural University.
In Ranchi, people woke up to cloudy sky; lashed with a mild and brief thundershower accompanied by lightening. The amount of rainfall, however, was low. Total rain recorded was just 1 mm.
But it was enough to bring down temperatures, making it a perfect day for family outings to enjoy holiday. State Met director J.K Mohanty predicted similar weather conditions on Saturday with cloudy sky with possibility of rain and thunderstorm.
But few people across the city believed that it’s Good Friday -the day of Christ's crucifixtion and it is special if it rains. Philomina Hembrom said, “Rain on Good Friday is “raining on a rock.” She also added, “This is a myth, it always rains on Good Friday because God is sad.”
This is a temporary phenomenon and the climatic conditions will keep on changing simultaneously. Wadood further added, “This climatic condition is a good sign and maybe the weather glory of Jharkhand is returning back. As lightning and thunder are the special features of the state.”
