Alerted over the recent incidents of lynching and communal disturbances in certain parts of the State, the government today reinstated the post of Zonal IG for North Chhotanagpur, South Chhotanagpur and Dumka Divisions. Talking to the media persons at Suchna Bhawan in Ranchi on Sunday, Principal Secretary of Personnel Department and State Government spokesperson Nidhi Khare said that crime control and monitoring of law and order of districts under their control will be their prime responsibilities.

"This step has been taken to check further administrative lapses and to ensure that action is taken on time if any intelligence input is received by the State Government and Police Headquarters in this regard," said Khare. They will enjoy all powers vested in the post of IG including transfer and disciplinary action against their subordinates, she added.

Khare further added that the prime motive behind reinstating the post of IG was to remove slackness, if there is any, and to ensure that corrective measures are taken on time at the government level to avoid such situation to erupt in future.

"All the three newly appointed IGs will contribute in maintaining law and order and crime control in districts under them," said the spokesperson. They will also conduct time to time supervision of the pending cases, she added.

Referring to increasing crime graph in the State, Home Secretary SKG Rahate said that the State Government was committed towards maintaining law and order in the State.

"With the appointment of three new IGs, any such incident could be averted in the State because they will act as a link between the Government and intelligence system," said Rahate. They will also make their contributions in maintaining law and order in their districts, he added.

Rahate said that the posts of Zonal IGs have been revived with slight variations after intense review of the incidents which took place recently in certain parts of the State. "Acting as eyes and ears of the State Government, their prime responsibility will be to provide feedback from the ground so that action could be taken on time," said the Home Secretary. Earlier, Zonal IGs had all the responsibilities including anti-Naxal operations, but this time they have been roped in exclusively to monitor crime control and law and order while anti-Naxal operations will be conducted parallely, he said.

Though they will be stationed in the State Capital, but will make frequent visits to their districts for collecting feedbacks in their areas.

DGP DK Pandey said that these IGs will provide regular inputs to the State Government, Police Headquarters and Home Department.
