WC bonanza doubles up with Holi

The colourful delight this Holi is going to be extra large for Team India captain MS Dhoni’s hometown as the festival of colours is coinciding with another adrenaline rush on March 6 when India will fight with West Indies to continue its winning streak in the ICC World Cup 2015. While the cricket buffs of the city have already begun collecting Dhoni’s old hairstyle wigs and cricket gear-shaped water sprinklers there are many who are planning to spend the day with traditional food and sweets watching the match amid the Holi slogans.

“Given a choice I would watch the match with my family at home. But friends and relatives will certainly not spare me from playing Holi. I wish India bowl first so that we watch the match properly in the second half,” said Ajay Bajaj, a resident of Morhabadi. And there are many like Bajaj, who would be arranging small get-together at their apartments, colonies so that the flavour of colour gels well with the cricket blast on Friday. “We have planned a small get-together in the colony where we will play Holi and watch the match together. Arrangement of food and lunch is already there. So the Friday is going to be great,” said Manoj Mishra, who resides near ITI, Ranchi.

Housewives and children, on the other hand, are teaming up to enjoy the big day with their unique plans. An ardent fan of MSD Neha Jaisawal of Upper Bazar said that she will not miss a single minute of the match. “I have planned cooking the dishes in the early morning and make the best use of time before the match. If I have to serve sweets and food to guests I will take small breaks but the match is very important. India has to win this crucial match to continue the winning spree,” she said.

JSCA president Amitabh Chaudhary, who has recently won the BCCI elections for the post of Joint Secretary, however said that the revelry of Holi should be there but with a feel of caution. “I wish everyone a very happy Holi but the city residents should be very cautious while celebrating the festival. Every year we see that people get injured or lose their lives due to negligence on their part. This should be kept in mind while enjoying the festival of colours alongwith Holi,” Chaudhary said.
